Description
Tucked beneath the dramatic clifftop acropolis of Lindos, St. Paul's Beach is a small, sheltered sandy cove on the southeast coast of Rhodes. The bay is named after the apostle, who is said to have landed here, and a tiny white chapel overlooks the shore. The water is invariably calm, making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling, and the shallow entry suits families with young children. Reached by a short paved road that winds down from Lindos village, parking is limited to the roadside near the chapel, so arrive early in summer. Sunbeds and umbrellas line much of the sand, and a beach bar and taverna serve drinks and food right by the water. The backdrop of the ancient acropolis gives the beach a distinctive character, and it tends to be busy from late morning until late afternoon. There are no watersports, but the clear water and rocky edges at the sides offer good snorkelling. Bring water shoes if you want to explore the rocks, and expect a lively, organised beach scene rather than seclusion.
