Description
South of Lindos on Rhodes' east coast, Glystra Beach occupies a broad sandy cove backed by low scrub-covered hills. The beach itself is fine golden sand, sloping gently into moderately shelving water – waves here are rarely wild but can be lively enough for bodyboarding. Sunbeds and umbrellas cover much of the shore in high season, so arrive early to secure a spot. A beach bar and a couple of tavernas serve drinks, snacks and full meals; water-sports operators offer jet skis, pedalos and parasailing. Roadside parking lines the approach road – get there before 10am in July and August or you may be walking. Family groups predominate during the day, with couples and groups enjoying the late-afternoon sun. The seabed is sandy, making it safe for children to splash in, and snorkellers will find modest rocky patches at either end. No lifeguard post is permanently stationed, so keep an eye on younger swimmers. Bring your own shade if you prefer not to rent; basic supplies are available from the mini-market near the car park.
