Description
On the southeastern coast of Rhodes, a few kilometres south of Lardos, Kouloura is a small cove tucked between rocky headlands. The shore is covered in smooth pebbles that shelve steeply into clear, moderately active water. There is no organised sunbed or umbrella hire; the beach remains largely untouched. A rough dirt track leads down from the main coastal road, and parking is limited to a handful of spaces at the roadside. Because there are no facilities—no taverna, no showers, no shade—you need to bring everything you will need for the day. The isolation and lack of development mean it rarely gets busy, even in high summer. It is best suited to adults or teenagers who are comfortable on pebbles and want a quiet spot for swimming and snorkelling. The surrounding hillsides are dotted with low scrub and pines, giving the bay a wild, unspoilt feel. Late afternoon light softens the water's colour, making it a pleasant place to linger until the sun drops behind the inland ridges.
