Description
Kokkina is a small, pebble-and-shingle beach tucked into a rocky cove on the east coast of Rhodes, just a few kilometres south of Lindos. The setting is dry and scrubby, with low cliffs and a few tamarisk trees offering dappled shade along the back of the shore. The water is clear and deepens quickly, with moderate wave action that can produce a steady swell – fine for confident swimmers but less ideal for toddlers. Reaching it requires a short, bumpy drive down a dirt track from the main Lindos–Kiotari road; parking is limited to the roadside verge at the top of the slope. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, or tavernas, so come with your own supplies, including water and snacks. The beach stays quiet even in peak season, attracting a mix of snorkellers (the rocky edges hold some marine life) and those seeking a low-key escape from the busier sands around Lindos. The afternoon sun beats down directly, so shade is at a premium – grab a spot under the trees early. Kokkina is not a place you stumble upon by chance; it rewards the deliberate visitor with peace and a raw, uncommercial stretch of coastline.
