Description
Porto Vathy is a pebbly beach on the southern coast of Thassos, set in a small bay with gentle hills backing the shore. The water here is clear and moderately exposed to the open sea, so it can have a light swell on breezy days. The shore is a mix of smooth pebbles and some sand patches, with a narrow but usable strip. Access is via a paved road from the nearest village, with roadside parking available along the approach. The beach is organised: a local concession rents out sunbeds and umbrellas, and a beach bar and taverna serve drinks and meals during the season. It tends to attract families and casual swimmers, and the rocky edges provide modest snorkelling opportunities. While not a secluded spot, it rarely feels overcrowded thanks to its moderate size. If you come, bring water shoes for comfort on the pebbles and some shade if the sunbeds are taken. Overall, it is a practical, low-key choice for a relaxed day by the sea.
