    The Best Beaches in Thassos

11 standout Thassos beaches, from the white marble pebbles of Saliara to the long golden sand of the east coast, grouped by coast, with access and family notes.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated July 2026

Thassos is a green, mountainous island ringed by beaches, and its calling card is water clarity: much of the coast is backed by marble, which gives the sea a bright turquoise cast. The most striking example is Marble Beach, a shore of smooth white marble pebbles near Limenas. The long golden sand sits on the east coast at Golden Beach, the quieter sand and snorkelling is on the south around Paradise Beach, and the southwest holds the old mining-town beaches near Limenaria. Browse every verified beach on the island on Thassos.

Thassos is easy to circle by car on a single ring road, so you can sample more than one coast in a day. This is a curated best-of rather than the full list; the island faces open sea on most sides, so wind direction matters more than season. Pick a beach below, then use each beach page for parking and access detail before you go.

The east coast and the north: golden sand and marble

The east and north coasts hold the island's easiest swimming and its most photographed shore. Golden Beach is the longest on Thassos, over two kilometres of broad sand that shelves gently into shallow water, fully organized and good for families. Nearer the main town of Limenas, Makriammos is a sheltered sandy crescent protected by wooded headlands, and Vathi is a wide, calm, shallow bay backed by green hills. The island's signature sight is Marble Beach, a small shore of smooth white marble pebbles left from the local quarries, set against unusually clear blue water; it is beautiful but compact, so arrive early in high season.

The south coast: quieter sand and snorkelling

The south coast trades organized resorts for a run of calmer, more natural beaches. Paradise Beach, west of Potos, is a broad sandy strand backed by pines with clear water that snorkellers like. Astris, just below its hillside village, is a soft arc of sand with calm, clear swimming, and Porto Vathy is a small pebbly bay with clear water and good snorkelling along its edges. These beaches are quieter than the east-coast strands, with fewer facilities, so bring what you need for the day.

The southwest: resort beaches and mining history

The southwest is where Thassos wears its industrial past. Alyki is the standout, a striking twin-cove beach of soft sand set beside the marble ruins of an ancient quarry and sanctuary, with clear water on both sides of the little peninsula. Metalia, near Limenaria, is named for the rust-red rock that juts into the sea, a reminder of the island's mining era. The lively resort town of Limenaria has a broad, gently shelving town beach with full amenities, and Potos on the south coast offers the same easy, family-friendly sand with water sports.
