Description
On the east coast of Thassos, a long arc of golden sand stretches between low headlands. The water is clear and shallow, shelving gently – good for children and less confident swimmers. The beach faces the open Aegean, so a moderate swell often rolls in, though the bay offers shelter from the strongest winds. A fringe of pines and olive groves provides some natural shade, but most visitors make use of the rows of sunbeds and umbrellas that line the shore. Chrysi Akti is well-served: several tavernas and a beach bar serve food and drinks, and there are showers, toilets and a lifeguard on duty through the summer. Parking is in a large lot just behind the beach, and the road from Limenas (12 km north) is paved. Water sports are available – pedalos, jet skis – and the beach can get lively in July and August. For a quieter spot, the far ends of the bay are less crowded.
