Description
Thimonia is a small pebble cove on the east coast of Thassos, a few kilometres south of Potos. The beach is tucked between low rocky headlands, with a narrow strip of grey-white pebbles that shelve gently into clear water. The seabed is also pebbly, so water shoes are a good idea. There is no sand, and the beach is fully exposed to the morning and early afternoon sun – bring shade if you plan to stay. The road passes just above the beach, and parking is limited to a rough verge that can accommodate a handful of cars. A short footpath leads down to the shore. There are no sunbeds, umbrellas, or any facilities whatsoever, so come with your own water, snacks, and a towel to sit on. The water tends to be calm in summer, though a moderate swell can roll in at times; it is excellent for snorkelling around the rocks at either end. The seclusion and lack of services mean it stays relatively quiet even in July and August. Fishing from the shore is possible, and the setting is popular with photographers for its clear light and rocky contrasts.
