Description
On the northeast coast of Thassos, just beyond the village of Rachoni, Skala Rachoni stretches as a broad, gently sloping sweep of sand. The beach faces east, catching the morning sun and sheltered from the worst of the Meltemi by low hills. The water has moderate wave action, the seabed shelves slowly, making it reliable for families with children. A paved road from Rachoni leads to a small parking area that overflows onto the verge in high season. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent from a couple of operators, and tavernas sit behind the sand serving seafood and cold drinks. No formal changing facilities or showers, so bring water. The beach gets busy in July and August around the central section, but quieter spots exist towards the northern end. Snorkelling is decent around the southern rocky headland. It is a comfortable, unpretentious beach for swimming and sunbathing.
