Description
Alexandra Beach sits on the southern coast of Thassos, a stretch of shoreline backed by low, scrub-covered hills and scattered olive trees. The sand here is soft and pale, and the water is clear with a moderate wave action that keeps it fresh without being rough. The beach is about 150 metres long and fairly narrow, widening a little at the centre. There is no shade except what you bring, so an umbrella is essential. Access is from a paved road that runs parallel to the coast, with parking available on the roadside verge. There are no facilities — no sunbeds, tavernas, or lifeguards — so this is a beach for those who want a quiet, self-sufficient day by the sea. It tends to be very quiet, even in August, attracting locals and a few travellers who prefer solitude. Snorkelling is possible along the rocks at the edges, but the sandy bottom is less interesting for marine life. Bring all your own water, snacks, and shade. The nearest village with shops and tavernas is a short drive north, making it easy to combine a morning here with lunch elsewhere.
