Description
Tucked into a small cove on southwest Thassos, a couple of kilometres south of Limenaria, Karnagio is a quiet sandy beach sheltered by low rocky headlands. The shore is composed of soft golden sand, and the water shelves gently, though a moderate swell often rolls in, so it’s not entirely flat-calm. A dirt track leads from the main coastal road, ending in a rough roadside pull-in where a dozen or so cars can park. The beach itself is narrow and about 100 metres long, backed by a strip of tamarisk trees that provide sparse shade. There are no facilities or sunbeds; you’ll need to bring your own umbrella, water and food. This suits travellers after a low-key spot away from the organised beaches. Midweek it remains fairly quiet, with a handful of locals and independent visitors. The snorkelling is reasonable around the rocks at either end, but the main appeal is the unpretentious, natural feel and the easy access from Limenaria.
