Description
Astris Beach lies on the southeastern coast of Thassos, just below the hillside village of the same name. The shoreline is a broad arc of soft sand, gently shelving into calm, moderately clear water that is safe for swimming. The beach is partly shaded by tamarisk trees near the back, but the central stretch is open to the sun. It is reached by a paved road from the village, with parking along the roadside and a small informal lot. A single taverna operates during the season, offering food and drinks, but otherwise the beach remains relatively undeveloped. It is popular with families and those seeking a relaxed day out, and it can get busy in August. There are no sunbeds or umbrellas for hire, so bring your own shade. The beach faces east-northeast, so it catches the morning sun and is protected from the strongest afternoon winds. A low headland to the north shelters the bay, and the surrounding hills are covered in olive groves and pine forest. This is a straightforward, pleasant beach for a quiet swim and a taverna lunch.
