Description
Marathias is a long, sandy stretch on Corfu’s southwestern coast, backed by low dunes and olive groves. The sand is fine and golden, with just occasional pebbles at the water’s edge. The seabed slopes gently, so the shallow water extends well out, making it family-friendly for long wading. Water is generally calm; in typical conditions only light ripples appear, though stronger winds may stir modest chop. The beach is well organized in its central sectors, with sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, changing booths, restrooms, and a beach bar / restaurants along the strip. At the far ends quieter zones exist with fewer amenities for those seeking more privacy. Access is by road, and parking is available close to the beach (roadside and in small lots). Because of its length and layout, it rarely feels overpacked even in summer, though the center can be busier midday. Caution: in edge zones, the seabed may have uneven patches or rocks; swimmers should stay within supervised areas, and arriving early is wise to secure parking or shade.
