Description
On the southern coast of Skiathos, a short walk from the popular Koukounaries, Mega Gyalos offers a more subdued alternative. The beach sits in a small, pine-fringed cove with a mix of coarse sand and pebbles, the water clear but with moderate wave exposure. It is reached by a dirt track off the main road, with parking along the verge for a handful of cars; most visitors walk the ten minutes from Koukounaries through the trees. The beach is unorganised—no sunbeds or bars—so bring water and supplies. The seabed shelves gently, making it pleasant for swimming, and the wooded slopes behind provide natural shade in the afternoon. It rarely feels crowded, even in high season, appealing to those who want a quiet spot away from the resorts. The setting is simple and natural, with good snorkelling around the rocky edges.
