Description
Koukounaries sits on the southwestern coast of Skiathos, about 12 km from Skiathos Town, backed by a dense pine forest that reaches the shore. The beach faces south with a moderate swell, keeping the water clear and lively. The fine, pale sand slopes gently into a broad, shallow bay, perfect for swimming. The tree line offers some natural shade, though most rely on the extensive sunbed and umbrella hire. Access is straightforward: a paved road leads to a large pay-and-display car park, which fills early in July and August. The beach is fully organised – lifeguards, showers, toilets, and several tavernas and beach bars serve food and drinks. Watersports are available, and the family-friendly atmosphere suits all ages. Despite the crowds, the setting – with fragrant pines and the turquoise bay – remains genuinely appealing. Quieter coves like Small Koukounaries lie a short walk east.
