    The Best Beaches in Skiathos

10 standout Skiathos beaches, from the pine-backed golden sand of Koukounaries to the sheltered coves of the south coast, grouped by area, with access and family notes.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated July 2026

Skiathos is a small, green island famous for its beaches, more than sixty of them, most on the sheltered south and southwest coasts where pine forest runs down to golden sand. The headline is Koukounaries, a Blue Flag arc of fine sand backed by a protected pine grove and consistently rated among the best beaches in Greece. Around it are quieter coves, while the lively sands of Vromolimnos and the sheltered bay at Kolios line the south coast toward town. Browse every verified beach on the island on Skiathos.

Skiathos is easy to get around, with a bus running the length of the south coast to Koukounaries and small boats hopping to beaches you cannot drive to. This is a curated best-of rather than the full list; the south coast is sheltered and busiest, so for quieter sand come early or take a boat. Pick a beach below, then use each beach page for access detail before you go.

    Koukounaries and the southwest tip

The southwestern tip is the island's beach heartland. Koukounaries is the star, a curving Blue Flag beach of pale golden sand backed by a dense, protected pine forest and the Strofilia wetland, with organized sunbeds, water sports and shallow water for families. Just over the headland, Mega Gyalos is a quieter, pine-fringed cove for those who want the same setting with fewer crowds. Nearby Maratha and the sheltered, calm-water cove at Katharina round out a cluster of soft-sand beaches within a short walk or drive of each other.

    The south-coast bays

The south coast between town and Koukounaries is a string of organized sandy bays, all reachable by the island bus. Kolios sits in a sheltered bay of soft golden sand with clear, shallow water good for families and snorkelling. Kanapitsa is a broad arc of pale sand on its own small peninsula, and Vromolimnos, near the airport, is the island's liveliest beach, a wide sweep of soft sand with water sports and beach bars. Offshore, Tsougkrias is a pale-sand beach on a small island reached by a short boat hop from the harbour.

    Closest to Skiathos Town

Two easy beaches sit within reach of the harbour for a quick swim. Megali Ammos is the nearest sandy beach to town, a long, gentle curve of golden sand backed by tamarisk trees, fully organized and good for snorkelling along its edges. On the greener north side of the island, Agia Paraskevi is a sweeping sandy bay backed by scrub and pines, a calmer alternative when the south coast is busy.
