Description
Volcana beach lies on the north coast of Kos, roughly midway between the airport and Mastichari. The shoreline here is open to the sea, with moderate wave exposure that can bring a pleasant swell. The beach is undeveloped: there are no sunbeds, umbrellas, or tavernas, just a strip of natural sand and pebbles backed by low scrub and a few tamarisk trees. Access is via a dirt track off the main coastal road, ending at a roadside strip where you can pull over. Parking is informal and limited to the verge. This spot suits those who want a quiet, self-sufficient beach day—bring your own shade, water, and snacks. The water is generally clear but can be stirred up by wind. It is rarely busy, but on summer weekends a handful of local cars may appear. There are no facilities whatsoever, so come prepared. Snorkelling is modest due to the sandy bottom and moderate waves.
