    The Best Beaches in Kos

11 standout Kos beaches, from the long shallow sand of the north coast to the Kefalos Bay beaches of the southwest, grouped by coast, with access and family notes.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated July 2026

Kos is a long, flat island with a coastline of broad sandy beaches, easy to explore by car or bicycle. The north coast runs in long, shallow, sandy stretches from Lambi near Kos Town out to Marmari and the Blue Flag bay at Mastichari, catching the afternoon breeze that windsurfers like. The southwest ends at Kefalos Bay, home to the famous Paradise Beach and the islet-studded Agios Stefanos, while the southeast has the warm volcanic sands of Therma. Browse every verified beach on the island on Kos.

Kos is one of the easiest Greek islands for beaches, flat enough to cycle and served by a good road network, so distances are short. This is a curated best-of rather than the full list; the north coast catches the prevailing summer wind while the Kefalos beaches on the southwest are often more sheltered, so check the forecast if you want calm water. Pick a beach below, then use each beach page for access detail before you go.

The north coast: long, shallow sand

The north coast is one continuous run of broad, shallow sand, ideal for families and popular with windsurfers when the afternoon breeze picks up. Marmari is a broad, flat stretch of fine sand that shelves very gently into calm, shallow water. Nearby Mastichari is a Blue Flag bay with the same easy sand plus the ferry to Kalymnos, and Lambi, closest to Kos Town, is an easy walk or cycle from the centre with tamarisk shade behind the sand. Further west, Lagada is a quieter, undeveloped stretch for those who want more space.

The southwest: Kefalos Bay and Paradise

The long sweep of Kefalos Bay on the southwest coast holds some of the island's best-known beaches. Paradise Beach, also called Bubble Beach for the volcanic gas that rises through the shallows, is a broad sandy beach with water sports and a lively summer scene. Agios Stefanos, at the bay's western end, looks out to a small islet crowned with the ruins of an early Christian basilica, with clear, shallow water for swimming and snorkelling. Tucked into the coast further south, Limnionas is a small, sheltered cove with clear water at the head of a narrow bay.

    The south coast and Therma

The south coast between Kardamena and Kefalos is a run of quieter sandy beaches, and the southeast has the island's most unusual swim. Helona and Malibu are broad, calm, sandy stretches sheltered from the prevailing northerly wind, good for families wanting space away from the resorts. Flamingo sits on the same stretch, backed by low dunes. And Therma, on the southeastern tip, is famous for the hot spring that flows into a rock pool at the water's edge, warming the sea where it meets the waves.
