    Agios Ioannis Beach

    Lefkada

Agios Ioannis (also “Ai Giannis”) is a lovely, relatively close beach to Lefkada Town (≈ 2-3 km), known for its calm mornings and becoming livelier in the afternoons when winds pick up. The beach lies beside a small village, with olive groves and low hills behind it. It offers a relaxing seaside environment, especially good for swimming, sunbathing, and water-sports (kite-surfing, windsurfing) when conditions are favorable.

    Agios Nikitas Beach

    Lefkada

Small bay at the foot of Agios Nikitas village on Lefkada’s west coast. Shore is a sand–pebble mix (generally coarse sand with small pebbles). Water is typically very clear, with turquoise hues. The bay faces the open Ionian and is partly sheltered, but westerly winds can bring moderate waves and occasional swell. Access is on foot via the village’s pedestrian lane after parking at the entrance or small private lots; the lane is flat and short. Restaurants and cafés line the waterfront; restrooms are mainly in venues, not on-beach. A seasonal water taxi runs from the beach to nearby Milos Beach. Space is limited and it can get crowded in high season; parking fills early. Cautions: changing wave conditions with wind, limited shaded areas, constrained beach width at times.

    Desimi Beach

    Lefkada

Sheltered cove on Lefkada’s east coast near Vlichos/Geni. Shore is a coarse sand–pebble mix with very clear, typically calm water due to the bay’s protection from prevailing swell. Depth increases gradually in most parts but can deepen quickly near the boat channel. Popular for snorkeling along the rocky sides and short paddles to nearby caves; several local operators rent kayaks/pedalos/boats and run short trips. Access is via paved road; parking is limited in small lots by the campsites/tavernas or along short stretches near the beach. There are waterfront tavernas and two adjacent campgrounds; public beach sections are generally unorganized (no standard rows of sunbeds/umbrellas, no public lifeguard). Limited natural shade from trees; bring shade in peak sun. Cautions: frequent small-boat traffic close to shore in high season; narrow beach can feel crowded; watch for slippery rocks underfoot in the corners.

    Egremni Beach

    Lefkada

Egremni is a dramatic, remote beach on Lefkada’s southwestern coast. It sits beneath white cliffs, with golden sand and extraordinarily clear turquoise water. The approach involves a steep descent via a long staircase (≈ 400 steps) from above, which adds to its wild, less-commercialised charm. Ideal for nature lovers and those willing to make the effort for reward.

    Kathisma Beach

    Lefkada

Kathisma is one of Lefkada’s best-known and most popular beaches. Stretching for over 1 km along the west coast, it’s framed by hills and offers wide views of the deep turquoise Ionian Sea. The beach combines lively beach bars, organised sunbeds/umbrellas, and quieter ends where you can escape crowds. It has a cosmopolitan feel, especially in high season, but you can still find more relaxed spots toward the edges.

    Megali Petra Beach

    Lefkada

Pebble–sand mix cove on Lefkada’s exposed west coast, named for the large shore and in-water boulders. Substrate ranges from coarse sand to fine pebbles; water is typically very clear. Open to prevailing W–NW winds, so conditions can turn wavy and the seabed deepens quickly. Access is via a narrow, steep asphalt road from Kalamitsi; final approach includes a short footpath. Parking is limited to small paid lots near the end of the road plus some roadside spots. Seasonal rental of a few umbrellas/sunbeds may be present, but there are no permanent facilities on the beach and no lifeguard. Cautions: limited/steep parking access, slippery rocks, sudden depth and strong shore break when swell is up. For food/drinks, options are at nearby Kavalikefta/Avali beaches.

    Mylos Beach

    Lefkada

Long, natural west-coast beach between Agios Nikitas and Kathisma with a sand-and-pebble mix and very clear Ionian water. Exposed to prevailing NW–W winds; conditions often become wavy with shore-break and a relatively steep drop-off. No road access: reach via a steep 15–20-minute footpath from Agios Nikitas or by seasonal water-taxi from the village. There are typically no facilities on the beach and little natural shade. Use sturdy footwear for the trail and bring supplies. Notable cautions: waves and currents on windy days, sudden depth, occasional boat traffic near the drop-off point, and no lifeguard presence.

    Nidri Beach

    Lefkada

Town beach on Lefkada’s sheltered east coast, opposite the islets of Madouri and Skorpios. Shoreline is a mix of coarse sand and small pebbles with generally clear, tranquil water thanks to the protected bay; short wind-chop and wakes can occur from passing boats. Exposure is low compared with the island’s west coast, so waves are usually calm. Access is straightforward via the seafront promenade within the village; multiple paid parking areas lie a short walk behind the beach, and the waterfront is flat. Large stretches are organized by hotels and beach bars offering sunbeds and umbrellas, with unserviced spots between. Watersports operators based in Nidri (kayak, SUP, parasailing, jet ski/boat rentals) and numerous day-cruise boats depart from the nearby port. Notable cautions: frequent boat and water-sports traffic close to shore—keep clear of craft lanes; the seabed is pebbly in places, so water shoes may help

    About Lefkada

Lefkada is an Ionian island unusual in two ways: it is connected to mainland Greece by a short floating bridge over a narrow lagoon, so it can be reached by car or bus without taking a ferry, and its western coast features some of the most dramatic cliff-and-beach scenery in Greece. Tall white limestone cliffs drop directly into deep turquoise water, and the contrast between the bright pebbles below and the dense pines above is the island's defining image.

The western coast holds Lefkada's signature beaches. Porto Katsiki, viewed from above as you descend a long staircase, is one of the most-photographed shores in the country. Egremni, similarly framed by cliffs, was rebuilt with a new access path after a 2015 earthquake. Kathisma is the largest organized west-coast beach with sunbeds, beach bars and good swimming. Mylos sits in a small protected cove near Agios Nikitas, and Pefkoulia and Megali Petra round out the white-pebble Ionian look further north.

The eastern and southern coasts are calmer and more sheltered. Nidri and Nikiana are family-friendly organized beaches with shallow water and easy parking. Vasiliki, in the south, is a major windsurfing destination — afternoon thermal winds funnel through the bay reliably enough that international windsurf schools are based here. Agios Ioannis on the northwest coast carries the island's sole Blue Flag certification.

Most Lefkada beaches are pebble or mixed rather than sand, so swim shoes help, and the dramatic west-coast beaches often require switchback drives or stair descents — pack accordingly. Lefkada is best for travelers who value scenery and varied days (beach, windsurfing, drives, mainland day trips) over five-star resort infrastructure. The drive from Preveza Airport (Aktion) takes about 30 minutes; the season runs May to October.
