    The Best Beaches in Lefkada

12 standout Lefkada beaches, from the white cliffs of Porto Katsiki and Egremni to the sheltered east-coast bays around Nidri — grouped by coast, with access and family notes.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated June 2026

Lefkada is one of the few Greek islands you can drive to — a causeway links it to the mainland — and its two coasts could not be more different. The west faces the open Ionian and holds the icons: the white cliffs and turquoise water of Porto Katsiki and Egremni, and the long organized strand of Kathisma. The sheltered east coast, around Nidri, is calmer and built for families and boat days, with bays like Nidri and Nikiana. The south, around Vasiliki, is windsurf country and the gateway to the cliff-backed cove of Agiofili. Browse every verified beach on the island in Lefkada.

The west-coast beaches are the most spectacular but the most exposed — they turn wavy in the prevailing northwest winds, and several involve a steep descent or a footpath. The east coast stays calm almost all summer. This is a curated best-of rather than the full list; pick a coast below, then use each beach page for access detail before you go.

The west coast: white cliffs and turquoise water

The west is where Lefkada earns its reputation. Porto Katsiki is the island's signature beach — dramatic white cliffs above, turquoise sea below — reached by descending around 80–100 steps from the cliff-top car park; go early or late for softer light and thinner crowds. Egremni is wilder and more remote, with golden sand beneath white cliffs and a long staircase of roughly 400 steps that keeps it less commercialised. For an easier west-coast day, Kathisma is a kilometre of organized sunbeds and beach bars with quieter ends, and Pefkoulia offers drive-up access straight off the coastal road. The wildest of all is Mylos, reached only by a steep 15–20-minute footpath or a seasonal water-taxi from the village of Agios Nikitas, whose own small bay is lined with waterfront tavernas. Note that all of these face the open Ionian and can turn wavy with a strong shore break when the wind is up.

The south coast: Vasiliki and Agiofili

South Lefkada is defined by the wide bay of Vasiliki, where calm mornings give way to a reliable cross-shore thermal wind each afternoon — a well-known windsurfing spot, with watersports centres and tavernas along the seafront. Just around the headland near Vasiliki port, Agiofili is a picturesque cove tucked into cliffs, with white pebbles and crystal-clear turquoise water that is ideal for swimming and snorkeling; reach it on foot down a short flight of steps or by boat from the port. Together they make an easy pairing: a windy, active bay and a sheltered, scenic cove minutes apart.

The east coast: sheltered, calm and family-friendly

The east coast sits in the lee of the mainland, so the water stays clear and tranquil almost all season — the natural choice for families. Nidri is a flat, organized town beach opposite the islets of Madouri and Skorpios, and the island's main hub for day-cruise boats and watersports. Nikiana is a low-key village beach with gradual depth and good casual snorkeling near the rocks, while Desimi is a sheltered cove with very clear, calm water, waterfront tavernas and kayaks for short paddles to nearby caves. Closest to Lefkada Town, Blue Flag Agios Ioannis is calm in the mornings and turns into a kite- and windsurfing spot when the afternoon wind picks up.
