    The Best Beaches in Zakynthos

11 standout Zakynthos beaches, from the cliff-locked Shipwreck cove to the turtle bays of the Marine Park, grouped by coast, with access and family notes.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated June 2026

Zakynthos splits cleanly by coast, and the best beach for you depends on which side you stay on. The rugged west is all white-limestone drama: the cliff-locked cove of Navagio (Shipwreck), the rock-platform swimming hole of Porto Limnionas, and the tiny twin harbours of Porto Vromi, where the boats to Navagio leave. The sheltered northeast is the family side — long, shallow, Blue Flag bays like Tsilivi and Alykes. And the south, inside the National Marine Park, is where the loggerhead turtles nest at quiet, protected bays like Gerakas. Browse every verified beach on the island in Zakynthos.

A car helps almost everywhere, and the west-coast icons — Navagio above all — are reached only by boat or seen from a cliff-top platform. This is a curated best-of rather than the full list; pick a coast below, then use each beach page for access detail before you go.

The west coast: cliffs, caves and rock coves

The west is Zakynthos at its most dramatic, and almost all of it is rock rather than sand. Navagio (Shipwreck) is the island's signature image — a white-pebble cove walled in by high limestone cliffs around the wreck of the MV Panagiotis — but it is reachable only by boat when conditions and closures allow, with a fenced cliff-top viewpoint near Anafonitria for everyone else. Porto Vromi is a pair of tiny harbour coves with exceptionally clear water and frequent boat departures to Navagio and the nearby caves. For swimming rather than sand, Porto Limnionas is a crystal-clear rock cove with carved steps and platforms into the sea, and Makris Gialos, on the northeast coast, is a secluded pebbly-shingle cove with rock caves that snorkellers love — the water gets deep fast, so it suits confident swimmers.

The northeast: easy, shallow family beaches

The sheltered northeast coast holds the island's most relaxed swimming. Tsilivi is a long, mainly sandy Blue Flag bay with water that stays shallow for a long way out, fully organized with sunbeds, beach bars and water sports, plus boat trips to the Blue Caves and Navagio. On the Vasilikos peninsula, Banana Beach is a wide Blue Flag strand of fine sand with a busy water-sports zone — calm in the morning, livelier by afternoon — while Saint Nicholas is a sheltered sandy bay built around the same jet-ski-and-parasail energy. For something different on the same coast, Xigia is a small cove where natural sulphur springs turn the water a milky turquoise, reached by steep steps from the road above.

The south and the Marine Park: the turtle bays

The south coast sits inside the National Marine Park of Zakynthos, where loggerhead turtles nest and the rules are strict but the swimming is calm and shallow. Gerakas, at the tip of the Vasilikos peninsula, is a long south-facing sandy bay with clear, gentle water and deliberately minimal facilities — daytime access only, roped-off nesting zones and no water sports. Kalamaki anchors the eastern end of Laganas Bay with fine sand and large natural stretches left undeveloped for the turtles. And Keri, known locally as Limni Keriou, is a sheltered village-front beach facing the Marathonisi islet, with clear water, snorkelling along the rocky edges and boat trips to the Keri Caves.
