Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated July 2026

Halkidiki (also spelled Chalkidiki) reaches into the Aegean on three peninsulas, and its best beaches divide between two of them. Sithonia, the middle and least developed finger, is the wild, beautiful side: pine forest running down to white-rock coves and turquoise water, from the aquamarine shallows of Karydi to the sculpted rock of Kavourotrypes. Kassandra, the western finger, is the developed resort coast, anchored by the long luxury sands of Sani and the shifting sandy cape at Possidi. Browse every verified beach on the peninsula on Halkidiki.

Halkidiki is the mainland's main beach escape, about two hours from Thessaloniki, so it can be busy in August. This is a curated best-of rather than the full list; a car is essential to reach the Sithonia coves, while most Kassandra beaches are organized and easy. Pick a beach below, then use each beach page for parking and access detail before you go.

Sithonia: pine, white rock and turquoise coves

Sithonia is the reason many people return to Halkidiki. Karydi, at the southern end of Vourvourou Bay, is the signature image: fine white sand and shallow, aquamarine water that reads like a natural pool, framed by smooth pale rocks. Just south, Kavourotrypes, also known as Orange Beach, is a string of small coves sculpted from white rock and backed by pines. Vourvourou spreads along a bay dotted with small islands, with calm, shallow water good for families and for paddling out to the islets, and the pine-shaded Lagomandra near Neos Marmaras is a calm, organized favourite.

Sithonia's south: long sand and a deep harbour

The southern tip of Sithonia mixes long organized sand with dramatic geography. Kalamitsi is a broad, semi-circular bay of golden sand with calm, clear water and a sheltered feel that suits families. Sarti, on the east coast, is one of the longest beaches in Halkidiki, roughly three kilometres of sand facing directly across to the pyramid of Mount Athos. And Porto Koufo sits inside one of Greece's deepest natural harbours, a near-enclosed bay ringed by cliffs where the water stays calm and dark blue.

    Kassandra: the organized resort coast

Kassandra is the developed side, closer to Thessaloniki and lined with resorts, but its beaches are long, sandy and easy. Sani is the flagship, part of an upscale resort with kilometres of white sand backed by pine forest and a marina. Possidi, on the western tip, is a striking sandy spit that pushes out into the sea and shifts shape with the currents. Closer to the resorts, the lively town beach at Kallithea and the long organized sand at Kriopigi offer full amenities and gentle, family-friendly water.
