Beaches with Natural Shade in Kefalonia

3 verified beaches in Kefalonia whose descriptions mention shade, trees, pines, cedars or wooded backing without warning that shade is scarce.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated June 2026

Natural shade is one of the most useful beach details in Greece, especially in July and August. This guide looks for beaches whose descriptions mention shade, pines, cedars, junipers, trees, forest or wooded backing, while excluding sentences that warn shade is limited, scarce or something you need to bring yourself.

It is still not a guarantee of a perfect spot under a tree. Shade moves, crowds claim the best patches early, and protected dune systems should never be trampled for comfort. If guaranteed umbrella service matters more than natural cover, use the full-service beaches guide. If quiet natural settings matter more, compare the wild beaches with no facilities guide. Shade is a timing detail

In Kefalonia, natural shade is most useful if you arrive early enough to choose a spot and understand where the sun will move. A beach can have trees behind it without shading the whole shoreline all day. For shade plus organized umbrellas, compare with the full-service beaches guide.

Myrtos Beach in Kefalonia, featuring a mixed shoreline with moderate water conditions
    Matt Sims

    Myrtos Beach

    Kefalonia

Shade: The beach is reached by a steep switchback road down from the village of Divarata, and gets exposed waves and afternoon sun rather than morning shade.

Myrtos is the most photographed beach in Kefalonia and one of the most recognisable in Greece — a long crescent of fine white pebbles wedged between two near-vertical limestone mountains on the northwest coast. The combination of the white seafloor and the deep Ionian water produces an unreal turquoise colour.

    Foki Beach

Shade: Foki is a small pebble beach tucked into a cypress-and-pine grove just south of Fiskardo, on Kefalonia's northeast tip.

Foki is a small pebble beach tucked into a cypress-and-pine grove just south of Fiskardo, on Kefalonia's northeast tip. The setting is unusually green for a Greek island, with shade from the trees reaching almost to the water — rare on a Kefalonian beach. A single taverna serves the cove.

    Fteri Beach

    Kefalonia

Shade: There are no facilities, so water and shade have to be brought in.

Fteri Bay sits on the remote northwestern coast and is one of the most secluded beaches on the island — turquoise water against a backdrop of vertical cliffs, white pebbles, and no road access. Visitors arrive either by boat (regular taxi-boats from Agia Kiriaki) or via a strenuous 30–45 minute hike down a steep path.
