    Best Sandy Beaches in Kefalonia

4 verified sandy beaches, ranked with Blue Flag certifications first.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated June 2026

Sandy beaches in Kefalonia are the ones most travelers picture when they imagine a Greek beach holiday: fine golden or white sand, gradual shallow entries, comfortable underfoot without water shoes, and easy to set up an umbrella and towel. Compared to pebble or mixed-surface beaches, they suit families with young children, anyone with mobility considerations, and visitors who prefer to swim from shore rather than off rocks.

Below are the sandy-classified beaches we've verified in Kefalonia. Surface type is one of the most-asked questions before booking, so we keep this filter strict: only beaches whose primary surface is sand are included — mixed sand-and-pebble beaches appear under a separate filter. See the full beach inventory for Kefalonia for the complete list across all surface types.

    Xi Beach

    Kefalonia

Best for: soft sand underfoot, calm shallow water, organized setup, family-friendly

Xi (pronounced "ksee") is unlike any other beach in Kefalonia: a long flat strip of pink-orange clay sand backed by white sedimentary cliffs that bathers use as a natural mud-mask. The water stays shin-deep for many metres out, making it the most family-suited beach on the island.
