Best Calm Water Beaches in Kefalonia

10 verified calm-water beaches, ranked with Blue Flag certifications first.

Curated by the Beach Atlas team · Updated June 2026

Calm-water beaches in Kefalonia typically sit in sheltered bays, protected from the prevailing meltemi (north Aegean) wind, or on lee shores where the geography blocks open-sea swell. They are the safest, most predictable beaches for relaxed swimming, family snorkeling, paddleboarding, and floating — and the easiest places to bring small children into the water without negotiating waves.

Below are the verified calm-water beaches in Kefalonia. Wave conditions in Greece are heavily wind-dependent: even a calm-rated beach can chop up during a strong onshore wind, so check local forecasts on travel day. The classification reflects the beach's typical, average summer condition. For the same area with the additional Blue Flag audit, see our Blue Flag guide for Kefalonia.

    Xi Beach

    Kefalonia

Best for: sheltered calm bay, sandy entry, family-friendly, organized beach

Xi (pronounced "ksee") is unlike any other beach in Kefalonia: a long flat strip of pink-orange clay sand backed by white sedimentary cliffs that bathers use as a natural mud-mask. The water stays shin-deep for many metres out, making it the most family-suited beach on the island.

    Foki Beach

    Kefalonia

Best for: sheltered calm bay, traditional taverna

Foki is a small pebble beach tucked into a cypress-and-pine grove just south of Fiskardo, on Kefalonia's northeast tip. The setting is unusually green for a Greek island, with shade from the trees reaching almost to the water — rare on a Kefalonian beach. A single taverna serves the cove.

    Fteri Beach

    Kefalonia

    Best for: sheltered calm bay

Fteri Bay sits on the remote northwestern coast and is one of the most secluded beaches on the island — turquoise water against a backdrop of vertical cliffs, white pebbles, and no road access. Visitors arrive either by boat (regular taxi-boats from Agia Kiriaki) or via a strenuous 30–45 minute hike down a steep path.
